[ON AIR] Taiwan's President, Lai Ching-te, is in Eswatini on an unannounced visit that Taipei says Beijing tried to stop.

Upon arrival, Lai reportedly told King Mswati III that Taiwan has the right to engage with the international community and that no country can prevent it from ...doing so.

The remarks come after China is said to have pressured three Indian Ocean nations to withdraw overflight permissions for Lai's aircraft en route to the kingdom, where he was due to attend celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of King Mswati III's accession.

Beijing regards Taiwan as part of its territory and opposes any formal state-to-state relations between Taipei and other countries.

For more on this, @Lulu_Gaboo is joined on the line by Dr Samir Bhattacharya, an Associate Fellow at the Observer Research Foundation, in New Delhi, India.

[ON AIR] Kenyan police report that the death toll from flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rains has risen to 18.

The landslides occurred in Tharaka Nithi, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Kiambu counties, in central and eastern Kenya after days of intense rainfall.

The country is ...currently experiencing widespread downpours during the peak of its March to May rainy season, which has caused significant damage to infrastructure and forced many residents from their homes.

For an update on this, @Lulu_Gaboo is joined on the line by our correspondent in Kenya, Alex Kiarie.

On todays #AfricaUpdateAsk?

President Paul Kagame has announced that Rwanda will soon recognise some Tanzanian citizens whose actions during the time of the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 in Rwanda demonstrated exceptional heroism.

Could this move be seen as part of a broader... effort to promote reconciliation and unity across East African states?

Artificial Intelligence is no longer a future concept—it’s already shaping how people live and work across Africa.

From township entrepreneurs running businesses on platforms like WhatsApp to young creatives using AI for content, design and ...storytelling, adoption is accelerating thanks to accessibility and affordability.

But as this growth continues, a key question arises: are we shaping AI for our own realities, or adapting to systems built elsewhere? And in a fast-moving digital economy, how do we ensure the human element isn’t lost?

Mmatsheko Mosito unpacks with Avril Johnson Williamson, author of AI & THE HUMAN FACTOR: Leading the Future of Work Through People, Purpose, and Intelligent Transformation.

Staying with issues shaping the country—there’s a major debate in South Africa’s legal sector.

The Black Conveyancers Association is pushing back against a challenge by Solidarity and several large law firms opposing a transformation ...policy.

The policy aims to make firms more inclusive by increasing black ownership, expanding opportunities for black lawyers and supporting young professionals.

Critics argue the targets are unrealistic, while supporters say the change is overdue.

So what does this mean for the future of the legal profession and for South Africans more broadly?

Mmatsheko Mosito unpacks with Pumla Mncwango, President of The Black Conveyancers Association.
