South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, is hosting the Rwandan counterpart, Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, in the country's capital, Pretoria.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to rebuild and strengthen bilateral relations between South Africa and Rwanda.

Discussions centred around enhancing diplomatic engagement and advancing cooperation in priority areas, including trade, tourism, health, education, and security.

Recent reports indicate that Nigeria's two main opposition parties, the African Democratic Congress (#ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (#NDC), are grappling with deep internal challenges, including weak ideological direction, corruption allegations, institutional fragility, disputed primaries, and protracted court battles.

These problems have raised doubts about their ability to mount a credible challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year's general elections.

Despite Nigeria having more than 21 registered political parties, the ADC and NDC are widely regarded as the opposition's strongest contenders against the APC.

The Democratic Alliance, a member of South Africa's Government of National Unity (#GNU), has removed its former leader, John Steenhuisen, as Minister of Agriculture and is set to replace him with Willie Aucamp, the current Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.

The move comes amid a scandal against Steenhuisen involving credit card debt and the alleged misuse of party funds amounting to approximately $9,200.

In a statement, DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis says he has formally written to President Cyril Ramaphosa outlining several changes to the party's representation in the national executive.

Niger has become the latest African country to introduce harsh legislation criminalising LGBTQ+ people. The West African nation's military junta has enacted a new penal code that officially criminalises same-sex relationships, imposing prison terms of up to 10 years. Similar restrictive laws were passed by Mali in late 2024, Burkina Faso in late 2025, and Senegal in early this year. To discuss this further, we are joined by Dr Samson Osagie, a Nigerian Lawyer and former Vice President of the African Bar Association.

Nigeria's political landscape could be heading for a major shake-up after a federal high court ordered the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other opposition parties for failing to meet constitutional electoral requirements.

The ruling by Justice Peter Lifu directs the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the affected parties from its register. The ADC, whose presidential candidate is former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has rejected the decision and says it will appeal.
