Award-winning filmmaker Tebogo Malope is returning to Limpopo with a powerful new feature film that revisits one of the most intense chapters in South Africa’s struggle history.

His upcoming political psychological drama Studying Under the Barrel of a Gun is set during the military occupation of the University of the North in Turfloop (now the University of Limpopo). The film follows the story of Ernest Khosa, a quiet rural student who becomes drawn into the underground resistance movement as students confront apartheid soldiers stationed on campus.

Beyond telling an important historical story, the project also aims to empower a new generation of creatives, with Malope opening auditions and technical internship opportunities for young actors and filmmakers from Polokwane and surrounding areas.
